Frequently Asked Questions
- What kind of dancing does Eclectics do?
We don't limit ourselves to any particular style, and we'll do whatever choreography that members bring in. Recently, we've done choreography and workshops in lyrical dance, hip hop, waacking, locking, and flamenco, among other styles.
- Who choreographs your dances?
All our dances are choreographed by members or alumni, and any member can choreograph.
- Who can join Eclectics?
Anyone affiliated with Johns Hopkins University! Contact us to be added to our mailing list.
- But I don't know how to dance...
Don't worry! Many of our members did not have formal dance training before joining Eclectics.
- Do I have to audition?
No, just come to one of our practices – anyone is welcome!
- When and where do you practice?
We have practices three days a week during the academic year: Mondays from 4 to 6 pm in the Mattin Center SDS Room, Wednesdays from 7:30 to 9:15 pm in the Levering Glass Pavilion, and Saturdays from 3 to 5 pm in the Mattin Center Dance Studio.
- If I join Eclectics, do I have to go to all the practices?
Nope, you can come as frequently as you like! The only thing we ask is that if you commit to performing one of our pieces, then you consistently attend practices for that piece.
- When's your next performance?
Our next performance will be at the Orientation Dance Show Saturday September 2nd, in Shriver Hall. Check out our Events page to find out where else you can see us perform.
- Can I watch videos of your dances?
Yes, check out our YouTube channel!
- Can you perform at the event I'm organizing?
Contact us to ask for our availability. We love performance opportunities!
